A few of my friends floated the Weber and cliff jumped at Echo this weekend. We’re planning on going Thursday.
The season is starting, and most likely ending, a lot earlier this season than last. Looking at some of my pictures and videos from last year, we didn’t cliff jump until the end of July. We were still floating the Weber until the last week of August. Hard to imagine that this year. It turns out bad snowfall winters makes for shorter cliff jumping summers. Boooo!
I have heard that the cops are becoming more and more strict at Echo. Last season, we were issued warning about parking the car at the View Area on WB I-80 and running across a few lanes. I guess they have posted signs this summer saying unoccupied vehicles will be ticketed and towed. We got around it last year by parking at the EB I-80 View Area and walking the mile back to the cliffs. Hopefully that remains an option this summer. I hear the cliffs at Echo are really high and the water is pretty shallow. That’s not a good combination. I’ll have first hand info on Thursday.
The Weber is flowing a little lower than usual and way less than last year. Not sure how that effects the float though. I’m guessing it’ll take longer and it might cause make of the shallow areas a little trickier to navigate, but it should still be a good time. And we won’t get pinned up against the Croyden Bridge!
Full update coming sometime after Thursday.
