Biking Day #26

Sam and I rode the downhill trails in Jeremy Ranch today.  We just did a quick lap from the elementary school to Stealth, to Fink Again, to 24-7, and over to Crazy 8’s.  The trail was one-way single track with a bunch of berms, jumps, and drops.  Lots of fun.  A little hot and dusty, but fun.  Then we enjoyed some awesome wraps at Park City Bread and Bagel.

Biking Day #25

Sam, Kisow, and I rode PCMR last Wednesday.  We only did one lap, but it was a good one.  Then we went to the pool and the first Deer Valley free concert.  Good day.

Biking Day #24

Sam, Kisow, and I rode PCMR again.  Mike locked his keys in the car and subsequently missed the first lap while he dealt with some account issues with AAA.  Sam and I climbed from the top of Town Lift to Mid Mountain Trail and Empire Link.  Sam videod the ride with his GoPro 5 wide angle helmet cam.  We cruised down Daly and Main before finding Kisow at the bottom of Main, still on the phone with AAA.

After lunch at Doolins, Kisow was finally able to get his car unlocked as he joined us for another ride on Town Lift.  Sam set up his helmet cam to film behind him, as we did the same top section of Empire Link, but continued a couple miles past Daly Canyon to Tour de Suds and Prospect… I think.  The trails are not well marked.  The Mountain Trails Foundation map seems to have things figured out, but it doesn’t help when the individual trails aren’t listed or have names and arrows, but are lying on the ground pointing at nothing.  Empire Link to Prospector was a little work, but a nice way to avoid the 1,000 vertical feet of double-track, gravel road that we usually take.

Then we rode down Daly and Main St. to the car and over to the pool at The Cove.  Sam had just mentioned how good life in Park City is, when I got a call from the shop saying that the bagel conveyor and coffee machine were broken and won’t be repaired for a few days.  Awesome, a bagel shop without bagels or coffee!

Biking Day #23

After working most of the morning, I met Mike Kisow at the base of Town Lift for some lift-served biking at Park City Mountain.  We rode Flat Iron from the top of Town Lift  to Mid Mountain Trail.  From there, we had an awesome ride down both sections of Empire Link to Daly Canyon.  Then down Daly, down Main, and back to Town Lift.

Then we did the same thing again.

Beautiful day for a bike ride.  A little chilly when the wind picked up.  Can’t believe I just said that 75 degrees seemed chilly.  I’m getting spoiled.

Biking Day #22

I rode The Avenues at 8:30 pm after working and hanging out at the pool all day. I only made it a little past the “halfway” point before it got a little dark and I turned around and headed home. Considering Sunday was the second longest day of the year and I ran out of daylight, I might have to think about starting my rides a little earlier.

My Cameo On JakeCast.com

Here’s the latest video from JakeCast.com.  I skied a couple runs with Jake during the last weekend of the season.  Using an HD GoPro helmet cam, he put together an awesome video from last Saturday.  Check me out at 2:12 and 3:32.

Ski Day #73/Biking Day #21

This weekend marks the closing of Snowbird’s 2009-2010 ski season.  It looked as if the season would be finished a couple months ago, but a huge snow month in April provided Snowbird with a 120″ inch base that held up until late June.  This isn’t the latest ski day I’ve ever had.  I remember skiing Crystal Mountain on July 14th of that crazy ‘98-’99 La Nina year when nearby Mt Baker set a snowfall record with 1,140 inches of snow.  That said, there’s something awesome about skiing in late June when it’s 70 degrees on the hill and 90 degrees in the valley.

I met up with Conrad, Dillon, AJ, Marcus, Jake, and a bunch of other kids for some summer skiing.  Regulator Johnson was the only run approved by the patrol, but we spent most of the day skiing Road to Provo despite the warnings of “backcountry conditions.”  We found out quickly what that meant, as the main runout to the lift was, for the most part, unskiable.  We kept having to take our skis off and hike over to lower snowpatches just to get down.  Eventually we figured out the best ways down and had an awesome day lapping Little Cloud, hitting jumps, drinking beers, and getting sunburned.

I think Heber is right behind me, it might be blocked by Conrad peeing though.

We skied until 2pm and bypassed downloading on the tram by skiing an awesome line on the Cirque and following random snowpatches to the base area.  We made it about 3/4 of the way down the 3,000 vertical foot run before having to take off our skis and bushwhack the rest of the way.  Then we sampled a bunch of Utah breweries at Snowbird’s BrewFest.

I swung by the shop for awhile, watched some baseball and finally got up the energy to go for a bike ride.  I wish I could say I really had a strong drive to bike, but mainly I just biked to say I skied and biked in the same day… because you can in Utah.

The trail is really green right now. Makes it tough to see the trail a lot of the time.

I rode The Avenues.  Even finding some extra energy to ride past the halfway point to the top.  Then I rode down.

One of the best days of the year.  I’m disappointed the ski season in over with, but then again, I hadn’t skied since May 2nd.  Good year though.  73 days, a new high for me.  And the bagel shop is somehow still in business.

Biking Day #20

I rode The Avenues by myself.  Following two days of rain, I was surprised to find the trail almost completely dry.  There were two puddles on the lowest switchback, but nothing above that.  The biggest threat is the lush vegetation that is starting to creep further and further into the trail.  Trail width seems to be cut in half just this week.

The best part of my ride was my new playlist of mashups from The Hood Internet.  How can you not charge down the hill with songs like these?
