It snowed a lot yesterday. My plan was to ski whatever resort got the most snow overnight. Park City got 17″, a few short of the 20″ Brighton reported, but not enough to justify spending $50 for a ticket and driving up BCC.
I got to Park City Mountain just as the Crescent Lift was loading the first skiers uphill. I skated to Pioneer and was ready to ski my first run on 10th Mountain, when the ski patrol dropped the rope to Jupiter. I was on the seventh chair up Jupiter, and the first to drop into the front face. I got a couple face shots on my first turns, snagged on some rocks as I crossed over a section that had been bombed, and recovered just in time to drop a rock outcropping as people on the lift above me were yelling “watch out! rocks!” I rolled up the window, cleared the rocks, back-checked, and rode out into four more face shots to the bottom of the bowl, choking on snow as skiers on the lift were cheering. Then, I ducked into some trees and got stuck in the middle of a snow-covered lake and spent five minutes walking out.
After another great run on Rhino, I met up with Sam and Rob for a couple hikes to Scott’s Bowl. The snow was untouched and deep on the ridgeline. After four runs, the wait in line was approaching 20 minutes and Sam and I left for McConkey’s and Pioneer as we awaited the opening of Jupiter Peak. The Peak never opened, but we skied a few good runs through the Black Forest and 10th Mountain.

We spent the rest of the day skiing Jupiter. The sun, warm temperatures, and huge crowds from earlier had wiped out most of the new snow. We called it a day after another run down 10th Mountain.
Awesome day. One of the best pow days I’ve ever had at Park City.
