Charli, Bill, Derrick, and I were lucky enough to get tickets (or a police escort into the game) for the Utah v. TCU game Thursday night. It was one of the best endings to a game I have ever seen. Go Utes!
We rushed the field at the end of the game. I know we were ranked higher, but Vegas had us as the underdogs, and we just love to rush the field at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Four years ago, Derrick broke his ankle jumping onto the field following our upset victory over Cal. I had to give him a piggy-back-ride for ten blocks so he could catch a ride to the hospital. Thursday night he avenged his injury by successfully rushing the field without injury.
A victory at SDSU and another win over BYU and we can rush the field for a third time this season! Then we’ll go to a BCS game and rush that field too! Go Utes!
A month overdue, but I finally uploaded some new pictures to my PhotoBucket page. Check out the new album, “Gainesville.”
It was about a month ago that Charli and I flew to Tampa, borrowed her parent’s camper and F-350 Super Crew Extended Bed Truck, and drove to Gainesville. We camped in a Wal Mart parking lot for three nights, drank a lot, ate a lot of Hare Krishna food, and watched the Gators destroy the LSU Tigers as an early birthday present from Charli.
Great trip. The Swamp is amazing! 92,000 die hard fans that understand the game of football. It was amazing to see. Check out some of my pictures: http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/fatbearfehr/Gainesville/
Sorry for the lack of posts these past few weeks. I’ve just been so heavily involved in this election… actually, I’ve been busy selling bagels and getting ready for ski season. In my opinion, neither topic received enough attention during the past year of campaigning.
On to my results:
Should I Vote For For President: Obama or McCain?
I match up well with…
John McCain - 55 match
As a Vietnam war veteran and someone who has a record of bi-partisan work on issues like campaign finance reform and immigration reform, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has often won praises for his willingness to buck his own party on issues. Unlike his opponent, McCain is a staunch supporter of the war in Iraq, a social conservative who believes that the Supreme Court should overturn a woman’s right to an abortion, and fiscal conservative who believes the Bush tax cuts should be made permanent and that corporate tax rates be further lowered.
I had an interview yesterday with a reporter from the Park Record, Park City’s local newspaper. They helped me out with a story about Park City Bread and Bagel. The article, “Loyal Customer Becomes The Owner,” reviews the events surrounding the purchase of the bagel shop as well as future plans for the business. Pretty cool article. Check it out here.

I finally got some helmet cam footage of some downhill riding. I left the house a little after 8 pm, heading towards The Avenues. I made sure to save the battery, not filming any of the uphill. I reached the top of the trail right as the sun began to set.
My first helmet cam footage can be seen below. It’s not actually much of a helmet cam shot, but it was filmed with my new GoPro Hero 3 Helmet Cam. I set up the shot below a section of the trail with a small jump. I set the camera to record and strategically placed the camera in the middle of the trail. Then pedaled out, turned around, and rode back past the camera. Check out the clip below:
Dirt Cam (Long Version) from fatbearfehr on Vimeo.
I also filmed a good bit of the downhill before the memory card became full. Time to switch to a different card. I uploaded the video to my Vimeo site. It’s too dark to really tell what’s going on. I’ll get better footage tonight. Just as soon as Bill finishes “redding up his room.” Why are Pittsburghers so weird?
From Salt Lake City P.D.’s watch command:
Officers Goodman and Lancaster went to the above location to investigate an assault. The suspect had left the scene so Officer Goodman asked Officer Lancaster to check the area. A short time later, Officer Goodman see’s the A/P in the area on his bike. Officer Lancaster tries to stop the A/P and he flees on his bike. Officer Lancaster is able to stop the A/P at 500 North Colorado St. As Officer Lancaster approaches the A/P, The A/P reaches behind his back as if he is grabbing weapon. Officer Lancaster takes the A/P to the ground and the fight is on. The A/P is attempting to pull a large knife on Officer Lancaster. Officer Goodman arrives and deploys her CED and A/P Raul Javier Dominguez 2-25-62 is taken into custody. He is charged with assaulting victim Bob Jones 7-31-60. Other charges are: Aggravated Assault on Police, Possession of Marijuana, Fleeing, NCIC hit from Arizona for Agg, Aslt on Police, and several other local warrants. A/P Dominguez made several statements that he is suicidal and did not have the guts to kill himself. Officers should approach Dominguez with great caution. Great Arrest by Goodman and LancasterJ
Here’s Charli on tv, arresting a car thief.
http://sportsyenta.blogspot.com/2008/07/dont-feel-bad-for-richie-sexson.html
Here’s a quick sample from the entry:
Sexson played 509 games in four years with the Mariners. He made $98,232 per game.
He finished with 1,835 at bats. He made $27,248 per at bat.
He had 447 hits. Each hit cost the Mariners $111,857.
I know its a little late, or early, in the year to be buying skis. But Scott P4’s came up on SteepAndCheap.com today. And at $250, I had to get a pair. I’ve been skiing on an older model for the last two seasons. They are the best ski I have ever ridden. I decided to go a little bigger for the upcoming season, upgrading to the 191’s. And I did all of this knowing that Charli and Byron will be riding Scott P4’s next season too.
We’re either going to look sponsored and really good, or like we all called each other that morning to see what the others were wearing.
Charli, Bill, Mike and I had Monday and Tuesday off, so we took a quick trip to Moab. We started Monday morning by loading up the Ski Lex with as much crap as possible; 10 Nalgenes/water bottles, five sleeping bags, four full-grown adults (800 lbs.), four sleeping pads, four bike helmets, four backpacks, three tents (including one doggy dome), two dogs, two dog packs, and two bikes. Somehow we managed to get all of it in, or on, the car.
The most extreme looking RX300 ever!
We set up camp somewhere on Wall Street and made our way to Arches for some hiking. Mike and Bill hiked out to Delicate Arch while Charli and I found a couple places to illegally bike and run the dogs. We finished the day with a good night at the Moab Brewery, eating dinner and drinking Dead Horse.
We woke up pretty early on Tuesday, poorly re-packed the car and made our way into town to rent a couple bikes for the day. Mike and Bill used the Rockhoppers, while Charli and I opted for a Kona Dawg and Rocky Mountain Element respectively. Apparently insurance is not available for mountain bike rentals. [foreshadowing]
The drive to Bartlett Wash took a good half hour, but we were on our bikes around 10 am, plenty of time before the sun got too hot. Not really knowing where we were going, we followed a variety of markers, pedal scrapes, and tire marks to the top of the Toilet Bowl. We spent the next three hours cruising around on the slickrock.
It got up to 100 degrees before we decided it was time to get the dogs back to the car. On the way back, I found a good sized ledge to jump. Not having a great amount of biking experience, I decided to drop a seven foot ledge onto a flat landing. The takeoff was good. My landing would have been successful had the landing not been flat. I landed directly on the front tire, bending the rim and blowing out the bike tube. I walked away unscathed and a new rim set me back only $50. Sucks, but it makes for a good story.
Check out some slickrock riding video (me jumping a more manageable rock):

Sick 2 from fatbearfehr on Vimeo.
I finally finished editing Sick 2, the third ski film from Fat Bear Productions. This year’s film focuses mainly on alpine skiing and telemarking, with a little snowmobiling, alpine touring, and a few “lifestyle segments” in case I submit the movie to Sundance.
The majority of the skiing takes place at Park City Mountain Resort and Solitude. There are clips from some of Utah’s other resorts, Snowbird, Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, Deer Valley, and the Canyons. We also filmed a few segments in the Wasatch backcountry. For a second consecutive year, Fat Bear Productions went international, filming a thrilling segment in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada (America’s Hat).
The movie is 34 minutes long, a big step up from last year’s 21 minute feature. For the sake of tradition, the crash section is at the end of the movie. Fans of crashes will appreciate the seven minute segment, which is almost as long as Fat Bear’s first ski movie, but way more entertaining.
It feels a little strange wrapping up the process before the season actually ends, but it’s done. I’m not sure too many people will be able to sit still for the whole thing anyway. So I opted for the “less-is-more” rationale.
Just to clear things up:
Aside from the weaknesses just mentioned, I think it turned out pretty good. I hope you enjoy the movie. I spent a lot of time on it (hours that probably should have gone towards retaining my job).
Thanks again to everyone who helped film, or had to stand around while filming was taking place. Thanks to all the skiers, tele-skiers, and snowmobilers. Oh, and a special thanks to AXA Advisors for their help in funding the project.
